Mancat Monday; Meme

Posted by Leigh on April 7th, 2008

Nermal: Sometimes I like to pose for Mom and look like the superstar that I am.

Nermal

By the way, I have slimmed down and lost 5 pounds since I first came to live with Mom and Dad. The vet is pleased that I’m feeling fine, have a healthy appetite, and am still able to keep myself at a good weight. I think it’s because I get a lot more exercise now than ever before. I now climb cat trees, chase the young’uns, and go up and down stairs. I had never encountered stairs before I came here!

We got tagged for a meme by the cool cats over at Meaouwy Troops!

Here are the rules:

  1. Pick up the nearest book.
  2. Open to page 123
  3. Find the fifth sentence.
  4. Post the next three sentences.
  5. Tag five people and post a comment to Mickey once you have posted it.

The nearest book is A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. Dad borrowed it from Mom’s brother-in-law and he says it’s fascinating. Mom had the pleasure of meeting Stephen Hawking when she was a sophomore in college many years ago. Well, she didn’t meet him exactly. She just served him breakfast when she was working at the university center, hehe.

Anyway, we followed the meme instructions and here’s what we found:

This would mean that the early universe would have probably been very chaotic and irregular because there are many more chaotic and disordered configurations for the universe than there are smooth and ordered ones. (If each configuration is equally probable, it is likely that the universe started out in a chaotic and disordered state, simply because there are so many more of them.) It is difficult to see how such chaotic initial conditions could have given rise to a universe that is so smooth and regular on a large scale as ours is today.

We are cats, so we don’t know or care what any of this means. Ha.

We tag these other cool cats:

Mr. Westley is Easy Like Sunday Morning

Westley: Some days you just want to lie in bed all day. I can still play without having to get up…

Or maybe I’ll just stretch out and sleep…

Thank you, Virgil. I think I will take up your offer for some TLC. (^-^)

Mom says: The two boys aren’t wrestling in these pictures. Rather, Virgil is lovingly grooming Westley. Whenever Virgil sees one of his brothers lying somewhere peacefully, he likes to come up and groom him. (I’m sure Virgil would groom Maggie if she actually let him.)

Cherry Blossoms in DC

Posted by Leigh on April 1st, 2008

Everybody: Spring has sprung and it’s time for the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC. Mom and Dad left us alone at home and went to see the blossoms this past Sunday. Can you believe they didn’t take us along? Mom tells us that they tried to go early Saturday on the first day of the festival, but when they saw how crowded the Metro train station was, Dad said, “Let’s go tomorrow.” (O_O)

It was an overcast, chilly day, but the folks say the blossoms were so beautiful and that they had a wonderful time walking amongst the trees.

Mom: Above is a close-up of some cherry blossoms. We also saw a couple of budding magnolia trees (these have pink, not white, flowers). On the right are some magnolia buds.
